Welcome

An Austin Re-original

The Austin Ginger Man served fine beers since 1994 in the original location on 4th Street. Due to changing commercial interests in the downtown area, we have moved to a new location just a fraction of a block away. The not-really-old but not-really-new pub has some new things, and a lot of the old pub in it. Come visit us---we think we've kept the comfortable feel of the old pub, and, of course, the beer is still the most important thing here. Like the other Ginger Man pubs, there is an outside beer garden perfect for enjoying a sunny afternoon. Need a map?

New beer on draught (coming throughout the month)
Brother Thelonious Belgian Style Abbey Ale - "With the developing interest in Belgian abbey ales and the monasteries that brew them, it’s time to remind the world that here in the U.S., we have a Monk of our own. Jazz icon Thelonious Monk is the inspiration for North Coast Brewing’s new Belgian-style abbey ale called, appropriately enough, Brother Thelonious. The beer is being released in conjunction with the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz (www.monkinstitute.org), and the brewery will make a contribution to the Institute for every case sold to support jazz education. Like a Belgian “Dark Strong Ale”, the beer is rich and robust with an ABV of 9%. The package is a 750 ml bottle with a traditional cork and wire finish and features a label picturing the jazz master himself."

Real Ale Phoenixx Double ESB - "It combines a rich, dark, complex malt character with enough English hops to approach I.P.A. levels. It weighs in at 6.5% abv, and 55 IBU's. Four varieties of English hops were used in the kettle (Target, Challenger, East Kent Goldings and Phoenix). It is also dry hopped in the conditioning tank with Challenger and Goldings. We blended English crystal malt with a small portion of chocolate malt to give the Phoenixx its full body and complex malt character. It is a true Winter Warmer for hop lovers."

Sierra Nevada Glissade Golden Bock - "As winter begins its slide toward the sunny days of spring, we bring you Glissade Golden Bock to help you enjoy the ride. Glissade is a remarkably mellow take on the traditional spring bock. With restrained sweetness, we emphasize subtle malt flavor, balanced against delicate aromas of spicy and floral European hops. This complex balance helps Glissade slide across the palate—bracing us against the last cold nights of winter, while its bright golden color turns our thoughts toward spring."

St. Arnold Winter Stout - "A creamy, full bodied sweet stout with a subtle chocolate and coffee flavors and a well balanced soft roastiness. Saint Arnold Winter Stout is loosely filtered to preserve a rich mouthfeel which is particularly satisfying during the colder months."

Brooklyn Monster Ale - "is a classic barley wine, a style of ale originally brewed by the butlers to the English and American aristocracy. It is brewed from three mashes of heirloom British malt and spiced with aromatic American Willamette, Cascade and Fuggle hops. After four months of aging, it has a magnificent burnished copper color, an aroma redolent of sherry, citrusy hops and fruit, a soft, warming, complex palate, a spiritous finish, and a strength of 10.8%. It is vivacious when young, but will age gracefully for many years, becoming more complex over time."

Green Flash West Coast I.P.A. - "This West Coast-Style India Pale Ale is extravagantly hopped, full flavored, medium bodied and copper colored. A menagerie of hops is combined throughout the brewing process to impart specific characteristics. Hops used include Simcoe for a unique fruitiness and grapefruit zest, Columbus for strong hop pungency, Centennial for pine and citrus notes, and Cascade for floral aroma."

Bear Republic Red Rocket Ale - "Red Rocket is bastardized Scottish style red ale that traces its origins to our homebrew roots. This full bodied and hoppy brew finishes on the palate with sweet, caramel malt flavors." ABV: 6.8% IBU: 67 OG: 1.067 Color: Deep Copper Red

Independence Jasperilla Old Ale - "Brilliantly golden, Jasperilla is a unique take on an old ale. Biscuity malt flavors meld with subtle plum and berry notes, produced by a special blend of English Old Ale and Chico yeasts. Brewed once a year, and aged for six months prior to release, the Jasperilla is smooth despite its 9% abv. We named this beer after our dog Jasper because he has brought so much joy to our lives. We got Jasper from a local dog rescue group called Mixed Breed Rescue. He has been a constant source of smiles and kept our spirits high through many late nights and long hours at the brewery. Jasperilla is so good and smooth that you'll beg like a dog for more, roll over for a belly rub, howl at the moon...you get the picture.

BrewDog Punk IPA - "This 6% trans-atlantic fusion IPA is light golden in colour with tropical fruits and light caramel on the nose. The palate soon becomes assertive and resinous with the New Zealand hops balanced by the biscuit malt. The finish is aggressive and dry with the hops emerging over the warming alcohol. This fresh, full flavour natural beer is our tribute to the classic IPAs of yester-year. The post modern twist is the addition of amazing fruity hops giving an explosion of tropical fruit flavours and a sharp bitter finish."

BrewDog Dogma - "is an innovative, enigmatic ale brewed with guarana, poppy seeds and kola nut all blended together with Scottish heather honey. A conspiracy of transcontinental ingredients infused with some devastatingly BrewDog imaginative thinking. The flavours, intricacies and nuances of this beer are best enjoyed while musing over some obscure 17th Century philosophical meanderings, such as:

"If we disbelieve everything because we cannot certainly know all things we will do much, what as wisely as he who would not use his wings but sit still and perish because he had no wings to fly."
John Locke.

This beer is not cool. You may think it is, but that is just a beautiful lie fabricated by clowns and gypsies."
